Having spent nearly 12 years as an MP for Halesowen & Rowley Regis, one of the main priorities that is often raised by local residents is that they want to feel safe in their homes and communities.
Being affected by crime and anti-social behaviour can cause intolerable stress for many people, and there is nothing worse than thinking that you are dealing with these problems alone. In areas which have seen persistent crimes over the past year, I have worked to bring local people together and give them a platform to share their experiences with myself, Councillors, fellow residents, local Government officials and Police officers.
During the third lockdown there were repeated issues with car cruising on the A456, which caused a nuisance for residents living in the vicinity. Raising awareness of the issue was key, and thanks to prominent media coverage and engagement with the Police and Dudley Council the issue has now reduced, with several arrests of ringleaders made and regular patrols in the area, although the residents and I continue to remain vigilant. I am also pleased to see the four Black Country councils working together to seek a renewal of the High Court injunction that prohibits car cruising, which expired last year.
Despite the ongoing national issues it is important for MPs to keep on top of local issues and get results for local people. I am continuing to support residents in several areas across the constituency where crime has been on the rise, ensuring that we work together and that there is a coordinated approach from those responsible in dealing with these issues.
