Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP, James Morris, and local councillor Karen Shakespeare (Halesowen North) have praised plans by Centro to make further improvements to the Rowley Regis Park & Ride following their request.
Following the opening of the car park extension, which saw the number of spaces double to 750, and a new state-of-the-art cycle hub, there has still be some continued problems with parking on roads around the station.
Both James and Karen called on Centro to make further improvements such as an electronic counter for drivers to know how many spaces are remaining, a cover for the walkway through the car park, and for improvements to the exit.
Centro have confirmed, following Karen and James pressure, that an electronic counter will be installed using existing CCTV and plans are being put together to improve the road layout of the exit.
Cllr Karen Shakespeare said (Con, Halesowen North), "I am delighted that after months of work acting on behalf of local people we have convinced Centro that they should install an automated car count system at the station. They have promised to do this in the next few months and they will work with Sandwell and Dudley to improve the infrastructure outside the station. Although this will not resolve all the problems that local residents suffer in our ward, hopefully it is a first step toward resolving issues that are caused by station users parking in nearby streets"
Local MP James Morris said, “Part of my plan for Halesowen & Rowley Regis was to improve our local train stations for both commuters and those who live nearby – and this is just one way in sticking to that commitment I made. I will be continuing to work with Centro and local councillors to improve our transport links which are vital for local people in improving employment opportunities and getting about.”
