Home Secretary Theresa May met members of the Friends of Hawne Park last Saturday to hear about the work of the group and also met with other residents on Carol Crescent in Halesowen on a campaign visit to support the re-election of James Morris.
Mrs May met with volunteers from James Morris's campaign team before talking to local residents about local crime and anti-social behaviour issues.
Mrs May said:
“Nothing is more important than feeling safe and secure in your home, so I was impressed to see the work the Friends of Hawne Park have been carrying out.
“Additionally, James Morris has worked hard to support efforts around Carol Crescent. The local community has been incredibly pro-active in its approach to combat crime and anti-social behaviour.”
James Morris added: 'A few months ago I was approached by residents of Carol Crescent about local crime issues and I volunteered to chair a residents meeting to discuss the issues and come up with a local action plan. One of the ideas to come out of that meeting was for the residents to form a Friends of Hawne Park Group. This group has been able to have a quick impact through initiatives it has already taken in the Park including tree planting. I was pleased to be able to show the Home Secretary this successful local initiative.'
