James and Halesowen North Councillor Stuart Henley have welcomed the decision by Diamond Bus to keep their 002 service running.
Original proposals announced last month would have seen the route, which runs between the Merry Hill Shopping Centre and Weoley Castle, taken out of service. Cllr Henley launched a petition, which attracted over 2,500 signatures, to encourage Diamond Bus and Transport for West Midlands to rethink their proposals.
Whilst Sunday services on the 002 route are being withdrawn, the timetable for Monday-Saturday will remain the same.
“I am pleased that Diamond Bus have recognised the strength of feeling, and the impact that withdrawing the 002 service completely was going to have", said James. "Whilst I recognise there will be some disruption for those who use this service on a Sunday, passengers who regularly use it to travel on other days now have peace of mind.”
Stuart Henley, Councillor for Halesowen North (Dudley MBC), added: “I want to express my gratitude to everyone who signed and shared this petition; your support has helped to ensure that this vital bus route will continue to serve the community. I also thank Diamond Bus for revising their plans and ensuring that the 002 service will continue.”
