James brought together businesses from the lifting and rigging industry today in Parliament’s Jubilee Room, as they spoke with Members of Parliament about the safe practises they use ahead of Global Lifting Awareness Day, which takes place on 13th July.
Last year James visited Crosby Premier Stampings in Cradley Heath, part of the Crosby Group who are members of the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA). LEEA is a leading international trade association, working to promote safe practices in workplaces and environments where the lifting and rigging of heavy loads are used, thus helping to prevent injuries and fatalities.
James hosted LEEA, the Crosby Group and other industries including Dynamic Load Monitoring from Southampton, Nucleus Learning from Peterborough and the White Ensign Association from South London, and exhibitors had the chance to talk to MPs about their businesses, and the steps they take to keep staff and consumers safe.
"There are many supply chains and industries where some form of lifting or rigging of heavy loads will be required, whether it’s in entertainment, construction, transport or energy creation, amongst other things, and it's important that the right practices and equipment are used to keep everyone safe", said James
“Following my visit to Crosby last year I’ve been working with them and the LEEA to hold an event in Parliament and raise awareness of the industry with fellow MPs. I want to thank the businesses who came along to promote their practices, as well as my colleagues who took the time to come and meet with them.
Ashley Hall, Regional Sales Manager for the Crosby Group UK, added, “Crosby is a proud member of the LEEA, and fully supportive of Global Lifting Awareness Day.
“Lifting done correctly is so important for everyone and goes unnoticed until we get it wrong. Holding an event in Parliament, with MPs dropping in and getting an understanding of what our industries do in their constituencies, was an extra special element to this year’s Awareness Day.”
Andrew Wright, Deputy CEO of the Lifting Engineers Equipment Association, said, “Global Lifting Awareness Day, driven by LEEA, is held annually to raise the profile of our industry by sharing material that promotes safe and high-quality lifting. Ultimately, we are trying to change behaviour so that best practice becomes everyday action, thereby eliminating accidents, injuries and fatalities.
“GLAD provides us with a platform to network with MPs. Businesses and professionals within our industry have the opportunity to connect, collaborate, and share information which can provide MPs with valuable insights into the needs and aspirations of our sector, helping to support the growth and development of the lifting industry in their constituencies. LEEA are most grateful for the continuing support of MPs, particularly in the areas of skills development, employment and policy.”
