James joined in the Saturday morning Boot Camp at Huntingtree Park today, as he and others were put through their paces for an hour-long training regime in the cold January weather!
The activity centre at Huntingtree Park is one of four ‘Health Hubs’ in the Dudley borough, and the Boot Camp is run free of charge in an effort to help local residents get fit. Other activities on offer during the winter include cardio tennis, yoga, boxercise and the ten-week couch to 5k programme.
Amongst the facilities at the park are an outdoor gym, football pitch, tennis courts, a bowling green and an indoor activity centre, which is used for the boot camp in adverse weather conditions.
“Maintaining good physical health is good for mental health, and I’ve always done what I can to keep fit by running and playing cricket", said James. "I’ve ran the London Marathon twice as well as taking part in lots of other competitive races, but even if running isn’t your thing, I’m sure everyone can find something they enjoy to keep fit and active.
“It was great to join Steffi, our instructor, and other members of the local community, for what was a very vigorous workout. Despite the cold weather we soon warmed up and had a lot of fun!”
Steffi Reeves, Parks Physical Activity Activator, added, “The Bootcamp here at Huntingtree started around 10 months ago, from 2 people who attended our first week, to now well over 20 each week! This lovely group of people are so warm and welcoming to any newcomers as we have multiple each week, and come rain or shine, never fail to miss a beat every Saturday morning!
“Not only is it a fun and enjoyable workout, but it’s also a social environment too, which helps promote a healthy lifestyle and a positive mental wellbeing. It’s suitable for all ages and abilities, with ages ranging from 9-78 years old, and it’s totally FREE of charge too!”
