Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP, James Morris, spent two hours volunteering in Second Time Around, the fundraising shop for Halesowen’s Hope Centre on Saturday 6th June as part of national Volunteering Week.
James Morris MP volunteered in the shop as a way of thanking local volunteers for their contribution to charities in Halesowen & Rowley Regis.
Volunteers are central to the work of countless charities and organisations. They are a valuable presence in many communities, helping out in places as diverse sports clubs, libraries, schools and hospitals.
James Morris MP said, “There are 127 charities registered in Halesowen and Rowley Regis, involving over 957 regular volunteers and providing 256 local jobs – all this makes a significant contribution to community life in our area.
I spent 2 hours with volunteers in the Second Time Around shop helping out and selling clothes and shoes. Volunteers are the social glue that keep our communities together.”
National Volunteers Week is now in its 31st year and helps recognise the work of 15 million volunteers nationally, contributing 1.5% to GDP – an estimated £23.9 billion to the UK economy.
