James Morris, Member of Parliament for Halesowen & Rowley Regis, has been re-elected to chair the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mental Health.
The unpaid role will mean James Morris acting as a champion for mental health in Parliament and in talks with Ministers.
James has chaired the APPG since 2013 and played an influential role in helping shape mental health policy.
The MP said that he would use his role to continue to push mental health onto the political agenda:
“I am honoured that my colleagues from all parties have elected me to lead the group on mental health once again.
“Most people would agree that mental health has sometimes been the Cinderella service in the NHS – underfunded and not given the same priority as other health conditions.
“Since taking on the role I have helped publish a report into ‘parity of esteem’ which has highlighted recommendations for the Government. I will also ensure that the Government fulfils its manifesto commitments on mental health ”
