James joined Councillor Stuart Henley in his Halesowen North ward today as they identified issues with speeding on local roads and resolved to work together on finding solutions.
Speeding is a big concern for residents on Long Lane, Malt Mill Lane, Narrow Lane and Lansdowne Road, and following traffic surveys on the latter two which identified speeding as a prevalent issue, James and Stuart are calling for the installation of speed cameras on these streets.
James and Stuart are also encouraging residents to report issues where necessary to the Council and the Police, as the more information gathered can increase the likelihood of putting deterrents and enforcement measures in place.
"Speeding issues cause misery for residents, who not only have to put up with increased noise but have concerns over their safety and the safety of children and other pedestrians", said James.
“I’m pleased to be working alongside Stuart, who is a proactive and well-respected Councillor in Halesowen North, to ensure that we have action on these issues and that the Police and Dudley Council are aware of them. It’s important that residents have peace of mind, whilst giving those who flout the law a reason to think twice.”
Stuart Henley, Halesowen North Councillor, added, “For some time now I’ve been advocating for the examination of speeding issues in our community by both the Council and the Police. It’s crucial to emphasise that increased reporting not only prompts the Police to deploy more personnel but also keeps the Council well-informed about the ongoing situation.
“It's imperative to recognise that road traffic collisions not only exact a human toll but also result in substantial financial costs. These costs encompass emergency services, NHS expenses, vehicle damage and insurance, as well as the replacement of highways furniture, among other things. By taking proactive measures, such as implementing speed control devices, we aim to mitigate the occurrence of such incidents, safeguard lives, and alleviate the financial burden on our community.”
