Halesowen & Rowley Regis MP James Morris will be running the London Marathon on 28th April and will be doing it to help raise funds for Halesowen based charity Up and Downs.
Up and Downs is a friendly support group for families of children who have Down Syndrome and provide opportunities for families to meet other families, to share information and support each other. We offer fun family sessions and a large range of experiences for the children and their family.
Money raised will be going towards specialist equipment, Makaton workshops and speech therapy sessions for the children.
James Morris MP said, "Last year I decided to set myself a personal challenge of running a marathon, having never really run more than 10km before, and now I want to give it another go. I have supported Up and Downs over a number of years with their events and thought this would be an ideal local charity to support. Their work is invaluable to so many so people."
Jemma Sagar from Up and Downs said, "We are really grateful for the support James is giving us by running the marathon in aid of Up and Downs. The money raised will go towards heavily subsidising fortnightly private speech and language therapy sessions for the children, and Makaton courses for the families. We also provide a monthly family meet up and in the last month started a stay and play session which is proving popular. All funds will help us continue running the charity and improving what we can offer.’
