James paused to remember the victims of the Holocaust today, to mark the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.
The Book of Commitment is organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust, and James was amongst hundreds of MPs from all parties who took time out to sign it, pledging to remember the legacy of the Holocaust and doing all they can to combat antisemitism, extremism and religious persecution.
The Holocaust Education Trust was founded in 1988 and works to educate young people on the background of the Holocaust and the lessons to be learnt from it with outreach programmes in schools, universities and communities.
"I visited Auschwitz when I was younger, and as you walk around there is a very profound impact of the atrocities that took place" said James. "It’s important that young people are educated on the Holocaust, and reminded that still today there are many people who face persecution for their religious beliefs.
"I would also like to pay tribute to the Holocaust Educational Trust for the important work they do, ensuring that the voices of survivors are still heard and giving motivation to current and future generations to speak out against the intolerances they see.
